Quote of the Day

Wednesday, February 27, 2013 , 0 Comments

This is a quote by Henry B. Eyring in his article titled "Sharing the Gospel Heart to Heart" in the September 2012 Ensign. It's a lovely little article that you should read if you have the time, but I especially loved this quote and thought it might lend you a little bit of inspiration if you, like me, are waning a little bit in your mission prep activities.

Keep going, pals! We can do it! And it is so well worth the wait!

SVU Students on Preparing for Missions

Monday, February 25, 2013 , 0 Comments

Since last semester I've been carrying out an internship with my university's Office of Communications and Marketing. I'm a news writer, which basically means that I write articles for the university website and for the school's blog. I've really grown to love it, and it's helped me to develop a different set of writing skills that might become really useful later.

The reason that I'm telling you this is because I've been working on an article that covers a topic I feel very passionately about, and it's finally been posted on the website! There's also an accompanying video which you should watch, even if you don't read my article.

58 New Missions!

Sunday, February 24, 2013 0 Comments

It's your lucky day! I've decided to post twice today, because I just remembered the awesome news that, after the recent influx of new missionaries over the past few months, church leadership has decided to create 58 new missions! Existing missions have been divided so that we have somewhere for every missionary to go. (article)

The church has also announced the new mission president assignments for this year. New mission presidents will start in July. (article)

Truly, an army of willing men and women is coming forth to progress the work of the Lord! This is most certainly an important part of the marvelous work of the church. I, for one, am proud to join the ranks!

For all of you who didn't know, I have a Pinterest board dedicated to all things sister missionary.  Because I don't want you guys to miss out on things just because you don't follow me on Pinterest, I'll show you some of the things that I've pinned that are really great (I think).

The District

Friday, February 22, 2013 , 0 Comments

Wow, I'm surprised that I haven't talked about this yet! The District is a web series made by the church that gives a personal account of the lives of missionaries. If you haven't seen it yet, you have to.

The second season was filmed more recently than the first, and it focuses more on Preach My Gospel style of teaching, so if you haven't watched any of it yet, I'd watch the second season first. I'm very much biased; I love the segments about the sisters, and I feel the Spirit so often while watching them teach and watching their activities throughout the day. There's no doubt it my mind that the Lord really does work through missionaries to bring salvation to many.

So, go watch an episode or two! Each episode is about 30 minutes long.

"A Word for the Hesitant Missionary"

Tuesday, February 19, 2013 , , 0 Comments

President Uchtdorf wrote something awesome (and relevant to us!) for this month's First Presidency message. The message, titled "A Word for the Hesistant Missionary," outlines things that every member can do in order to follow the Lord's commission to bring the gospel to others.

Really, what I think he outlines is four traits that we can start working on now that will become indispensable to us as missionaries later. Along the same lines is another article on lds.org written by a then-missionary about traits he wished he had picked up before he left. It's titled "Dear Future Missionaries."

The Fourth Missionary (download)

Monday, February 18, 2013 , 0 Comments

>>Download the PDF!<<
>>View on Downloadables Page<<

First off, to all of your prospective sisters out there who are on Facebook, there's a great Facebook group called "Many are called... But Few are Sisters" that you should check out. It's a private group, so you'll have to search for it, but I promise it's worth the effort. It's thousands of women strong and there are lots of links to cool blogs that you can check out.

The reason I bring that up is because the downloadable for today is something that someone posted in the group. It has affected me personally, so if you want to read about my feelings on it, then I'll keep talking after the link.

Sis Mish Outfit

Over Christmas break my mum, 11 year old sister and I were at TGI Friday's. We were playing a game where we tried to match family members and friends with an animal.
I asked my mom what animal I was.

She said a chipmunk.

Happy Friday!

Friday, February 15, 2013 0 Comments

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! I know that I haven't posted all week, and I'm so sorry! It's been a pretty busy week for me, and we changed things around in Mission Prep by practicing teaching on Tuesdays, so I couldn't even share my Mission Prep notes with you!

Just to tide you over until my next real post, here's a video (via BYU's The Universe) chock full of missionaries opening their mission calls. I don't know about you, but I absolutely love to watch missionaries open their calls, even strangers.

Shout out to the guy who was called to serve in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania mission: that's my home mission! Maybe I'll see you around before I leave.

"A Message to Future Missionaries"

Sunday, February 10, 2013 , 0 Comments

Today our YSA stake had the opportunity to hear from the president (and his wife) of the Washington D.C. temple. It was such a great privilege to hear from President and Sister Swinton and to be reminded of the blessings of the temple.

We can go to the temple to come closer to our Father in Heaven, to receive revelation and be edified by the Spirit. The most important thing that we ever do in the temple, however, is make covenants with the Lord and receive an endowment in return.

Mission Prep Notes (5 Feb)

Wednesday, February 06, 2013 0 Comments

Yesterday in Mission Prep we had a cool opportunity to watch the Elders at work. We had two class members act as investigators and the Elders taught them the first discussion while we took notes. It's one of those things where you really had to be there in order to get something out of it, but I'll share my notes anyway.

As Sisters in Fashion (updated!)

Tuesday, February 05, 2013 , 4 Comments

Future sister missionaries, I've done my homework. For months I've been hunting down websites that are reliably modest because, let's be honest, the pickings can get pretty slim when you're a Mormon girl on a college (or high school) budget.

If you're not aware of the recently updated guidelines for sister missionary dress and grooming, you can find them on lds.org. (Or just click this link.)

Counsel from Elder Holland

Friday, February 01, 2013 , 0 Comments

Okay, so I'm a little bit of an Elder Holland fan, if you couldn't tell, and a friend of mine just alerted me to an article that came out in the Church News a few days ago covering a talk Elder Holland gave in the MTC on Jan. 14th.

I encourage you to read it, if you have the time, but I just wanted to share with you a few quotes that I absolutely love from it. I hope they will be as inspiring to you as they are to me! (Link to article)
